Law and Motion Calendar

All parties appearing on the Law and Motion calendar in Department 53 or Department 54 shall utilize the tentative ruling system. On the afternoon of the court day before each calendar, the judges will publish a tentative ruling on each matter on the next day's calendar. The tentative rulings will be available after 2:00 p.m. on the court day before the matter is heard by accessing the public portal or by telephoning the clerk at 916-874-7858 for Department 53 and 916-874-7848 for Department 54.

Any party desiring to be heard, must call the Law and Motion Oral Argument Request Line at (916) 874-2615 by 4:00 p.m. the Court day before the hearing and advise opposing counsel of its intention to appear. If no request for appearance is made, the tentative ruling will become the final order of the Court pursuant to Local Rule 1.06 (B).

Where appearance has been requested or invited by the court, limited argument will be entertained.

All noticed motions and demurrers shall include the following information in the notice:

Pursuant to Local Rule 1.06 (A), the court will make a tentative ruling on the merits of this matter by 2:00 p.m., the court day before the hearing. The complete text of the tentative rulings for the department may be downloaded from the public portal. If you do not have online access, you may call the dedicated phone number for the department as referenced in the local telephone directory, between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the court day before the hearing and listen to the tentative ruling. If you do not call the court and the opposing party by 4:00 p.m. the court day before the hearing, no hearing will be held.

CMP Calendar

All parties scheduled for compliance matters on the weekly Superior Court CMP calendars in Departments 38 and 43 may access the court's Web site for tentative rulings to determine if an appearance is required. Compliance matters include any matter scheduled for a Friday morning CMP calendar that is not an Arbitration Status Conference.

On the court day before each Friday calendar, a tentative ruling will be published for each matter on the next day's calendar. Tentative rulings may be accessed on the Court's public portal after 2:00 p.m. the day before the hearing to determine whether or not an appearance is required. The tentative ruling shall become the ruling of the court, unless a party desiring to be heard so advises the department clerk and the other side no later than 4:00 p.m. on the court day preceding the hearing.

If you do not find information regarding your particular case on the tentative ruling, and you have not previously been informed that you are excused from the calendar, an appearance is required.

If you are unable to access the Court's public portal and need the tentative ruling read to you, or if you have further questions regarding a CMP hearing, please contact the appropriate CMP department at 916-874-5226 (Dept. 38) or 916-874-7561 (Dept. 43).
