About Criminal Portal
The Criminal Portal allows the public read-only access to some Criminal case data.
The court will publish calendars on the portal to make information about courtroom activities available. The Public will be able to look up case information. In addition, the public will be able to submit filings in pre-existing cases.
Getting your Account
To set up your account:
- Click the Login hyperlink.

- The User account page will open, and click the " Create New Account " tab.

- Click the Public User button, and the page will expand with fields to enter information into. Enter your email, confirm your email, enter your first name, last name, and phone number. All of these are required to create an account.

- Read the terms of use. After you have read the terms of use, click the "I agree with these terms" button if you would like to proceed.

Request New Password
- Click the Request New Password link on the User account page (access it by clicking the login link in the upper right side of the page).
- The Reset Password page will open. Enter your email.
- The user will receive an email with a link to reset their password.

- Enter your new password in Password.
a. It is recommended you use a strong password with at least 8 characters comprised of a combination of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters—for example, 1_Luv_L@rge_P@$$W0rds.
b. The Password strength bar indicates how strong your password is.
c. Tips to strengthen your password are also displayed.
- Enter the password again in Confirm password.
- Click Save.
Home page (user not logged in)
The home page presents the user with three (3) options:
- The user can click Return to SacCourt Homepage to be redirected to https://www.saccourt.ca.gov/.
- The user can view the Criminal Hearing Calendar – this does not require the user to be logged in.
- The user can search a case and view the name of the party and events on the case.
- The user must log in to be able to file into an existing case.
Home Page (user logged in)
Once the user has logged in with their email address and password, they have access to Searches, Subsequent Filings, and Calendars.
- Clicking Searches takes the user to the Search page. From the Search page, the user can search for cases by last name, first name, or case number.
- Clicking Calendars takes the user to the Calendar Options page. From Calendar Options, the user can open the Criminal Public Hearing Calendar. Each calendar supports searching by Hearing Date and Department.
Search page
The search page allows the user to pick a search to run.

- After the user clicks Searches - Search for case information by party names or case numbers, they are taken to the search window shown above.
- The user enters search criteria into the necessary field, then clicks Search. The system will support searches using multiple fields. For example, the user can type a full last name and a full first name (Smith, John) and receive cases that match those criteria
- Cases that match the criteria entered into the search fields display in the search results grid after the search is performed. If no matching record is found, the portal will say, “No Results Found.”
- The user can also search using partial data. For example, they can search on last name (S) and first name (J), and the portal will return cases that match the criteria. Likewise, the user can enter a full case number (e.g., 224364) or just 2243, and it will return cases that have 2243 in the case number.
- The search results grid displays one row per matching party. The results show the Full Name and Case Number.
Calendars
Users can also view calendars on the portal. These calendars each allow the user to view court activities for a specific date and department. The Criminal Calendar does not require users to log in, as the information is publicly available; it is also available to logged-in users. Calendar Options are available on the Home Page and the Header in the portal. The user clicks on the blue hyperlink to open the desired calendar.
The Criminal calendar lists cases for a particular date and department. It supports searching by Hearing Date and Department.

The Criminal calendar displays the following information:
- Department – displays the Courtroom the event is scheduled for.
- Event Time – displays the date and scheduled time of the hearing.
- Case Name – displays the case caption.
- Case Number - unique identifier for the case record.
- Type – this is the type of hearing (event).
- Attorneys – this is a list of active attorneys on the case. It shows the Agency – Representative name. The list is colon (:) separated.
- Next Event – displays if there is another event set and shows the event details.

Filing a Subsequent Document in an Existing Case
- All users can file subsequent filings in an existing case
- Go to the Searches link on the homepage or in the header.
- Search the case and click the case # link
- When the case opens:
o Click the yellow Submit Filing button:
o Submit Filing link – this link is used to file subsequent documents into the case. Criminal cases have main cases and subcases (cases within the criminal branch, such as Mental Health and Appeals). If there are subcases on the main criminal case, you are required to choose a case option to add the filing to before you can click “Submit Filing.” If no subcase is on the criminal case, then no “Add document to” buttons will be displayed, and the user can just click Submit Filing.

The Add Document page
- The eFiling Title will default; do not change the File_#. In the example below, the File_# is File_20; leave this as is and do not enter anything in this box.

- Fill in the information in the boxes; red * are required fields.
- Click the choose file button and select the filing document from your computer or phone (it must be a PDF document to upload it).
- If the document contains sensitive information that you believe should be reviewed for a confidential status, then click the confidential box for Court review. The court will review it to determine whether it contains confidential information, and, if so, will mark it as confidential. If it is not deemed confidential, it may be viewed at the courthouse. Please note that most criminal documents are not confidential.

Initiating a Case
A logged-in public user will be able to initiate cases for Habeas Corpus and a few select Miscellaneous Petition cases.
Select the applicable case type
- Habeas Corpus Filings
o Fill in the required information.
o Upload the document (must be a PDF).
o Click the Proceed link at the bottom of the page.
The red * denotes all required fields.
- Miscellaneous Petition Filings
o Fill in the required information.
o Upload the document (must be a PDF).
o Click the Proceed link at the bottom of the page.
