Arbitrator Selection

Cases ordered to judicial arbitration shall proceed to selection of an arbitrator and an alternate arbitrator. If all parties agree to have their case arbitrated and agree that the case be ordered to arbitration with no limit, they may participate in the phone-in selection procedures. If parties fail to select arbitrators, an arbitrator will be appointed by order of the Court.

Limited Civil Cases, where plaintiff has elected arbitration or parties have stipulated to arbitration, shall participate in the phone-in selection.

The Arbitration Unit will accept phone-in selections on Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All counsel must agree that they have no objection to the Court ordering the case to arbitration with no limit imposed on the amount of the award. Limited Civil Cases have a $25,000 limit. The parties should agree on a minimum of four names, in order of preference, from the arbitrator panel list prior to calling the Arbitration Unit. Only one attorney should call regarding the case. No appearance is necessary after the names have been selected. The following information will be requested at the time of phone selection:

  • Case Number
  • Case Name
  • Name of person calling and name of firm (if applicable)
  • Four names in order of preference for selection as arbitrator and alternate arbitrator

To make your selection by phone, please call 916-874-7438.

Arbitrator panel lists are available in Room 102 of the Gordon D. Schaber Sacramento County Courthouse, 720 9th Street, Sacramento.
